He has also worked with the West European Studio Orchestra on a project recorded in the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.<br \/>\nHaving a very special interest in Opera, Diogo is taking part in several Opera productions with some of the most important conductors and directors. In 2019, he assisted Lorenzo Viotti for Romeo and Juliet by Gounod, with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir. Later, in Spain, he assisted David Azagra for L\u2019elisir d\u2019 amore by Donizetti in the project \u201cOpera J\u00f3ven\u201d. Recently he made his debut as principal conductor conducting The Medium by Menotti, in the Operafest Lisbon, which received an excellent review in the international famous magazine Bachtrack. Diogo has also been working with renowned jazz musicians such as Benny Golson, Perico Sambeat, John Ellis, China Moses, Isabella Lundgren and Belmondo Quintet.<br \/>\nDiogo is often selected for several international conducting competitions. In 2020, he was finalist in the Mackerras Fellowship at the English National Opera and Semifinalist in the Siemens Hall\u00e9 International Conducting Competition. Very recently, Diogo was one of the laureated conductors in &#8220;Pr\u00e9mio Jovens M\u00fasicos&#8221;, in Portugal.<br \/>\nDiogo began his studies as a conductor in 2010 at the National Orchestra Academy of the Metropolitana with Professor Jean-Marc Burfin in Lisbon. Generously supported by an Ann Gerrard Bursary, he completed his Masters in Conducting with Distinction at the Royal Northern College of Music with Clark Rundell, Mark Heron and Sir Mark Elder, International Chair in Conducting. He had the opportunity to work as assistant conductor for Juanjo Mena, John Storg\u00e5rds, Sir Andrew Davis, Nicholas Collon and Ben Gernon at the BBC Philharmonic and Vasily Petrenko at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/p>\n<p>In the last few years, he has taken part in conducting Masterclasses with Sir Mark Elder, Martyn Brabbins, Douglas Bostock, Johannes Schlaefli, Laurence Marks, Jos\u00e9 Vilaplana and Jean-S\u00e9bastien B\u00e9reau.
